Meryl Streep’s Speech Gets People’s Support, Donald Trump Calls Her Overrated

Although Donald Trump was not present at this year’s Golden Globes Awards, he was the talk of the town at the event. In his opening monologue, the host of the event Jimmy Fallon said that Golden Globes is “one of the few places where America still honours the popular vote”. He didn’t forget to compare Trump with the wicked king King Joffrey of Game of Thrones.

Hollywood legend Meryl Streep was honoured with the lifetime achievement award at the prestigious event and in her acceptance speech she turned the spotlight away from herself. She paid tribute to another legendary actress of Hollywood Carrie Fisher in the beginning of her speech and then took a dig at the POTUS to be without even mentioning his name.

Citing an incident from the US Presidential campaign, she said “the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter from The New York Times” and according to her it was the performance from 2016 that stunned her. She said, “it kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.” She also highlighted that “disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence,” and added that when a person in power adopts the instinct to humiliate, it trickles down into everyone’s life and gives other permission to behave in a similar manner.

After Meryl’s emotional speech, people took to social media to praise ‘The Iron Lady’ and appreciated her for standing up for truth. Here are some of the reactions from across the globe.

Meanwhile, Trump also took to Twitter to respond to Streep’s speech. Here is what he wrote…
